Free & Budget-Friendly Indoor Fun

Not every indoor outing needs a big price tag!

  • The Point Playscape & Turf (South Portland) — Free! Huge indoor play structure and turf area open to the public.
  • Toddler Playgroups — Many are free or just a few dollars to drop in. Affordable, simple fun for littles.
  • Your Local Library — Many libraries have quiet indoor play corners, puzzles, or LEGO clubs perfect for cold or rainy days.

Notes & Tips for Planning

  • Check seasonal hours — Some play cafés or community centers adjust their hours or close for holidays.
  • Bring socks & water — Many places require clean socks for play structures.
  • Know allergy/environment policies — Especially for peanut/nut-free or scent-sensitive spots.
  • Call ahead — To confirm admission, sibling rates, or any recent changes.
  • Stack your trips — Pair a play visit with errands, lunch in the area, or a scenic detour to maximize the outing.

There Is a Gap (and a Possibility)

You may have noticed: there are very few indoor play options right in the towns surrounding Sebago Lake, especially for older kids. Larger indoor playgrounds with full climb structures, zip lines, or multi-level play towers are mostly located in bigger population centers like Portland, South Portland, and Biddeford.

If you’re a parent dreaming big (as I often am), here’s a thought: an indoor playground in the Sebago Lake region — with climbing structures, slides, open turf, café seating, and comfortable caregiver space — would meet a real need. I’d be there with my kids on cold or rainy days, and I know many other local parents who would visit too.
