The Point Community Center: Indoor Play, Climbing, & Family Fun in South Portland, Maine

Looking for a spot where kids can climb, play, and explore while parents enjoy a welcoming community space? This family-friendly center in South Portland offers a unique mix of indoor play, open turf, and gathering areas—all designed with families in mind.

I’ve been bringing my kids here periodically for a few years now, and it’s one of those places that grows with your family. We’ve even attended a birthday party here, which was a hit with the kids. It’s the kind of spot where you can easily spend a morning or afternoon without feeling rushed. Between the play areas, the open space for active games, and the chance to connect with other families, it’s a great year-round option no matter the weather.

What to Expect Inside

This community hub was thoughtfully built to serve families with children of all ages. Some highlights include:

Indoor Playscape – A bright, imaginative climbing area with slides, bridges, and tunnels. It’s perfect for toddlers through elementary-aged kids, giving them plenty of space to move, climb, and create their own adventures. Shoes must be removed to enter the playscape, so sneakers or grip socks are helpful.

Turf Field – A full-sized indoor turf space where kids can kick a ball, run races, or play tag. Usually, the turf is divided: the backside is reserved for older kids and teens with stronger kicks, while the front half has softer, bouncier balls for younger children. Families often bring soccer balls, footballs, or frisbees to make the most of the open field.

Gathering Spaces – Comfortable seating areas throughout the building make it easy for parents to take a breather, enjoy a coffee, or chat with friends while still keeping an eye on their children.

Supervision

While the facilities are staffed, parents are responsible for monitoring their own children. One important note: you cannot supervise kids in the playscape and on the turf at the same time. I like to meet another parent here, so if the kids want to split up, we can monitor both spaces. Sight lines are great once you’re in the same zone, but it’s good to plan ahead to either stick together or attend with more than one adult.

Tips for Parents & Caregivers

  • Bring sneakers or grip socks – Sneakers are best for turf play, while socks or bare feet are required for the playscape.
  • Pack water bottles – Kids burn a lot of energy here, and hydration helps keep the fun going.
  • Bring your own food – The café space is currently not serving food. Families are welcome to bring in their own snacks and drinks.
  • Choose the right time of day – Mornings tend to be quieter, while afternoons and weekends are more energetic with larger crowds.
  • Check the schedule – The center is closed to the public on Sundays.

Final Thoughts

This center is more than just a place to burn off energy—it’s a true community space where kids can play actively and parents can relax or connect. The combination of a playscape and indoor turf makes it a versatile choice for rainy days, winter weekends, or simply when you need an outlet for busy little ones.

Our visits always feel easy, fun, and stress-free—the kind of outing that makes family life a little lighter. If you’re looking for a reliable, family-focused spot nearby, this one definitely earns a spot on your go-to list.

Come for 30 minutes, stay for two hours, or pair it with shopping and food nearby.
