Why Families Love Donnabeth Lippman Park and Playground

Donnabeth Lippman Park is one of those places families come back to again and again — not just for the playground, but for everything around it. Set just off the main road in a convenient Windham location, it offers plenty of space to spread out, play, and explore without feeling crowded.

What makes this spot stand out is how it blends a traditional playground with a nature experience. Kids can climb and swing, then wander over to the nearby pond, follow the trail, or stop along the story walk. It’s the kind of place where a quick stop often turns into a longer visit — and that’s usually a good thing.

Play & Explore

Playground Equipment:

  • Main Structure (ages 5–12): A single, multi-level play structure designed for older kids, with platforms ranging from about 3 ft to 8 ft high. Kids can climb up using a mix of ladders and stairs, then choose their way down with seven different slides, adding plenty of variety and keeping play moving.
  • Swings: A well-rounded swing set includes one parent/toddler swingone toddler bucket swing, and four standard swings, offering options for both younger children and big kids.

Open Space Features:

  • Expansive grassy area perfect for tag, frisbee, or open play
  • Pavilion for shade and picnics
  • Surrounded by trees for a quiet, natural feel
  • Direct access to Chaffin Pond and nearby walking trails
  • Story walk trail that adds something extra for younger kids

Rest & Refuel

Shade: Moderate — pavilion and tree line offer coverage, especially later in the day
Restrooms: Two portable toilets
Seating: Two picnic tables under the pavilion, plus benches near the playground
Water Access: Bring your own — no drinking fountain available

Getting There & Getting Around

Parking: Gravel lot with space for approximately 24 vehicles (expansion planned)
Accessibility: Ground-level access to pavilion and swings; mulch base is firm but not wheelchair-friendly
Cell Service/Wi-Fi: Strong cell service (4–5 bars, including 5G for most carriers)

Parent Pointers

Visibility: Excellent sightlines across the playground and open field make it easy to keep an eye on kids

Safety Notes: The pond is very close to the playground area — something to be mindful of with younger children. The playground sits near the main entrance to the parking lot, so watch for cars coming and going

Nearby Food/Coffee:
Waxwing Bakery and Pat’s Pizza are both just a short drive away for an easy stop before or after your visit

Best Time to Visit:
This is a great year-round spot. Mornings and late afternoons tend to be quieter. In the spring, the parking lot can get muddy, and on busy days it may fill up with walkers using the trails.

Plan Your Visit

What to Pack:

  • Water bottles
  • Sunscreen and hats
  • Bug spray (especially late spring through summer)
  • Snacks or a picnic lunch
  • Extra clothes — between the playground and pond, kids often end up a little messy
