If you’ve ever wondered why Lake Region Kids Calendar highlights the specific towns it does, the answer begins right at the heart of it all: Sebago Lake.

Sebago Lake is the second-largest lake in Maine and is cherished for its crystal-clear water, abundant wildlife, and endless opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, and outdoor fun. It’s more than a destination—it’s part of my everyday life. In fact, it’s just a mile from my front door. I grew up in the surrounding communities, and now I’m raising my own children here. This place isn’t just scenic—it’s home.

The Core of the Calendar: The Lake Towns

The primary focus of Lake Region Kids Calendar is on the six towns that directly border Sebago Lake:

  • Naples
  • Casco
  • Raymond
  • Windham
  • Standish
  • Sebago

These towns are the heartbeat of the Lake Region. From community concerts to library storytimes and family festivals, they each bring something unique to the table—all within easy reach of the lake. If it’s happening in one of these towns and it’s fun for families, I want it on the calendar.

Expanding the Circle: Surrounding Communities

As Lake Region Kids Calendar grew, it made sense to include the towns that neighbor these lake communities—places that are often just a short drive away and filled with their own family-friendly gems. These include:

Baldwin, Bridgton, Buxton, Cumberland, Denmark, Falmouth, Gorham, Gray, Harrison, Hiram, Hollis, Limington, New Gloucester, Otisfield, Poland, and Westbrook.

From hiking trails and nature preserves to farmer’s markets and seasonal festivals, these towns help make the Lake Region feel rich, connected, and full of possibilities for local families.

How I Keep the Calendar Current

Every week, I check in with libraries, recreation departments, land trusts, and other trusted sources across all 22 towns to keep the calendar packed with current, family-friendly happenings. I also monitor Facebook and community pages daily, catching those smaller events that might not be listed anywhere else—because sometimes the best activities are the ones tucked away in a simple flyer or a quick post from a local group.

Occasionally, I’ll add events from just outside this region, especially if it’s something truly special or worth the short drive.

Why It Matters

My goal is simple: to make it easier for families like yours to get out, connect, and enjoy the community around you—without having to search a dozen different websites or wonder if you’ve missed something fun nearby.

Whether you live in one of these towns or just visit on weekends, I hope this calendar helps you create more memories and discover new favorites in the region we’re lucky enough to call home.
