Trail Experience

Tannery Brook Preserve begins at a simple, easy-to-miss access point at the end of Wentworth Drive. There’s no formal parking lot — just space at the dead end of the road — which gives this trail system a quiet, local feel right from the start.

Once you step onto the trail, you’ll quickly notice how well-connected the system is. Multiple loops (yellow, red, and blue) allow you to choose your own route, making it easy to keep things short or extend your outing depending on your time and energy.

The terrain is generally moderate and approachable, with a mix of packed dirt paths, wooded sections, and some gentle changes in elevation. It’s a great “middle ground” trail — not too rugged, but not overly flat either.

One of the standout features here is the thoughtful trail design. Wooden bridges and boardwalks carry you over wet areas, adding a sense of adventure while keeping things manageable for families.

As you explore deeper into the preserve, you’ll come across Heron Pond — a peaceful spot that naturally slows the pace. It’s a great place to pause, look for wildlife, and let kids explore along the edges.

The trail system is popular for:

  • Walking and nature exploration
  • Mountain biking on the flowing trail network
  • Snowshoeing in the winter months

Along the way, you’ll pass through:

  • Wooded trails with roots and natural surfaces
  • Boardwalk sections over wet or marshy areas
  • Bridges that add fun, interactive elements for kids
  • Quiet pond views and small wildlife habitats

Keep an eye out for:

  • Birds around Heron Pond (including herons in the right season)
  • Frogs and small wildlife near wet areas
  • Changing trail conditions throughout the seasons

What makes Tannery Brook Preserve especially appealing is how adaptable it is. You can loop back quickly if needed or keep exploring — making it a reliable go-to when you’re not quite sure how long your outing will last.
