If you’re looking for a short, peaceful walk that’s perfect for young kids, grandparents, or anyone craving a quick escape into the woods, the Tassel Top Nature Trail in Raymond is a hidden gem. Tucked behind Tassel Top Beach on Sebago Lake, this easy loop offers shaded forest paths, glimpses of wildlife, and a calm, family-friendly atmosphere just off from Route 302.
The trail begins near the upper parking lot and gatehouse. From the kiosk, you’ll follow a well-marked loop that winds through mixed forest with gentle grades and wide, easy-to-walk paths. Benches dot the way for rest breaks, and interpretive signs share tidbits about the plants and animals that call the park home. Keep an eye out for squirrels, turkeys, deer, and a variety of birds — this is an especially fun trail for little nature spotters.
At just under a mile, the loop is doable for even the youngest walkers, with only a few roots and rocks to navigate. It’s a great choice for an after-school stroll, an add-on to a day at the beach, or a quiet weekend nature break. Dogs are welcome on leash (though note seasonal restrictions inside the beach area). The path is usually dry and well-maintained but may be muddy after rain.
