Spotlight: Discover the Beauty of Maine’s U-Pick Flower Farms

Maine’s picturesque landscapes come alive each summer with vibrant blooms, offering locals and visitors alike the chance to immerse themselves in nature’s colorful tapestry. Three standout u-pick flower farms—Little River Flower Farm in Buxton, Chipman Farm in Poland, and Petals Farm & Garden in Windham—invite you to experience the joy of handpicking your own bouquet.

Little River Flower Farm – Buxton, ME

Nestled along the tranquil Little River, Little River Flower Farm is a certified organic haven spanning 110 acres. From mid-June through October 1, visitors can explore over 8,000 annual and perennial flowers, including sweet peas, delphiniums, and dahlias. Whether you’re a DIY bride, a garden club member, or simply a flower enthusiast, the farm offers a serene setting to create your own arrangements.

Chipman Farm – Poland, ME

A springtime favorite, Chipman Farm opens its u-pick tulip patch for a brief but colorful season. Typically available for 2–3 weekends, the farm offers tulips at $1.75 each. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant fields Wednesday through Sunday, with hours varying based on bloom conditions. The farm provides scissors and buckets for picking, ensuring a delightful experience.

Petals Farm & Garden – Windham, ME

Petals Farm & Garden combines the charm of a flower farm with expert garden design services. From July through September, the farm opens its gates on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 AM to 1 PM for u-pick sessions. For a $5 admission fee (free for children under 12), guests can select from a variety of blooms, with stems priced between $1 and $5. The farm also offers seasonal flower shares and dahlia bouquets, allowing you to bring home a piece of their vibrant offerings.

Tips for a Successful U-Pick Visit:

  • Timing: Visit early in the day to enjoy cooler temperatures and fresher blooms.
  • Supplies: Bring clean buckets or purchase them on-site to keep your flowers hydrated.
  • Planning: Check each farm’s website or social media for current hours and bloom conditions before heading out.

Whether you’re crafting a custom bouquet, capturing beautiful photographs, or simply enjoying a peaceful day among the flowers, these Maine farms offer an authentic and enriching experience. Support local agriculture and immerse yourself in the natural beauty that these farms have to offer.
