Paved Paths
Mountain Division Trail
Windham & Gorham
The Mountain Division Trail is one of the best places to bike with kids in the Sebago Lake region. The paved section stretches approximately 4.5 miles between Gambo Road in Windham and Shaw Park in Gorham, making it the longest paved recreation path in the area.
Because it follows a former railroad corridor, the trail is mostly flat and easy for young riders. You’ll find plenty of room for bikes, scooters, strollers, and walkers. Families can choose a short out-and-back ride or challenge older kids to longer distances as their confidence grows.

Shaw Park Loop
Gorham
If your children are still learning to ride, the paved paths around Shaw Park provide an excellent beginner-friendly option. The park offers wide paved pathways, open spaces, and nearby playgrounds, making it easy to combine biking and playtime in a single outing.
The short loop format allows families to stay close to parking and restrooms while giving young riders plenty of opportunities to practice.
Westbrook River Walk
Westbrook
The Westbrook River Walk follows the Presumpscot River through downtown Westbrook and provides a smooth paved surface suitable for kids of all ages.
Families can enjoy river views, watch the water flow through the falls, and stop for snacks or a break along the way. While shorter than some of the other trails on this list, it’s a great option for a quick family bike ride.
Gravel & Hard-Packed Dirt Paths
Cherry Hill Farm
Gorham
Cherry Hill Farm offers wide gravel paths that wind through open fields and farmland. The terrain is generally gentle, making it a good option for children who are comfortable riding on surfaces other than pavement.
Families can enjoy scenic views, wildlife sightings, and plenty of space to explore.

Sebago Lake State Park
Casco
Many of the park roads and campground areas provide excellent opportunities for family bike rides. Outside of the busiest summer weekends, children can enjoy relatively quiet roads and hard-packed paths while exploring one of Maine’s most popular state parks.
Bring swimsuits and make a full day of it by combining biking with beach time, playground visits, and a picnic.
Sebago to the Sea Trail
Standish
The Sebago to the Sea Trail is a growing trail network that connects communities from Sebago Lake toward Casco Bay. Portions follow former railroad corridors and other multi-use pathways, providing long stretches of relatively gentle terrain for family rides.
Many sections connect directly with the Mountain Division Trail, making it possible for families to customize rides based on age and ability.
Cross Town Trail
Gorham
This community trail system features several sections of hard-packed gravel and dirt trail suitable for family biking. The mostly level terrain and convenient access points make it a popular choice for local families looking for a shorter ride.
Claire Drew Trail
Gorham
The Claire Drew Trail offers a quiet ride through wooded areas and natural surroundings. The trail surface is generally firm and manageable for children riding bikes with wider tires.
Its shorter length makes it ideal for younger riders who are still building endurance.
Pondicherry Park
Bridgton
Pondicherry Park combines easy trails, boardwalks, and scenic views of wetlands and wildlife. While not designed specifically as a biking destination, older children can enjoy riding many of the wider hard-packed sections.
The park is especially beautiful during spring, summer, and fall when wildlife activity is high.
