If you’re looking for a peaceful walk in the woods that’s easy to follow and just the right length for families, the Rolfe Hill Forest Loop in Casco is a great pick. This 2.2-mile loop is well-marked from start to finish, so you can just relax and enjoy the scenery without worrying about getting turned around.
The trail starts from a small, unpaved parking area on Quaker Ridge Road. You’ll spot blue metal markers that guide you across the road and along a mix of woods roads, ATV paths, and older club trails. The path winds through beautiful mixed forest—pine, hardwood, and some wetland areas—making it a nice variety of sights along the way.
Rolfe Hill has a lot of local history too. The land was part of the Gay Family homestead, then stayed in the Rolfe family from the 1700s until it was permanently protected by the Loon Echo Land Trust in 2024.
With only about 249 feet of elevation gain, this loop gives you a little uphill to keep it interesting but stays easy enough for kids, new hikers, or anyone just looking for a laid-back nature walk. It’s great in any season—snowshoes in winter would make for a totally different kind of adventure. Dogs are welcome on leash, and like any LELT preserve, it’s carry in, carry out.
