Trail Experience
Pleasant Point Park is one of Buxton’s oldest public parks, but it feels more like wandering through a peaceful forest than visiting a traditional town park. A network of easy trails winds beneath mature pine and hardwood trees before leading visitors toward scenic overlooks high above the Saco River.
The main trail is wide, mostly level, and easy to follow, making it approachable for families with young hikers. Several side paths branch off, allowing kids to explore while still staying close to the main route.
One of the highlights of the park is reaching the bluff overlooking the Saco River. From here, you’ll find beautiful views of the river below, especially when leaves are changing in the fall or after spring rains.

Long before becoming a town park, the property was known as the Cyrus Woodman Reservation. It was donated to the Appalachian Mountain Club in 1923 before eventually becoming state-owned and later deeded to the Town of Buxton in 1989.
Archaeological surveys conducted in the park uncovered five homesites dating back to the 1700s, along with the original garrison (fort) used by Buxton’s earliest settlers. Today, the forest is carefully managed both as a recreational space and as a protected natural area that preserves its historic significance.
