As an active family constantly on the go or playing outside, we use strollers, bikes, scooters, and other things with wheels every day. Over the years, we’ve tested out a variety of non-motorized wheeled devices, and these have become our favorites! Whether you’re looking for something to help transport kids on walks, get them started on their biking journey, or just encourage outdoor play, there’s something on this list for every family.
I’ve included Amazon affiliate links to these items, but many of them can be found in great condition at children’s consignment stores, yard sales, or on Facebook Marketplace.
Strollers
- BOB Single Jogging Stroller (link) – I wish I had gotten this sooner! I bought one used last year after my youngest outgrew our other jogging stroller, and it’s so easy to maneuver, folds compactly, and will last us for another year or two of marathon training—until she can keep up with me on her bike.
- BOB Double Jogging Stroller (link) – I need a double stroller when caring for a family member a couple of days a week. This is the ultimate double stroller, perfect for kids who are older but still need a ride, especially if you frequently travel off pavement.
- Infant Travel System (link) – I had a similar model when my kids were little and used a single version while nannying. It’s lightweight, has a huge storage basket (which has even held a third kid when needed!), and is more affordable than similar modular strollers.
Wagons
- Plastic Wagon (link) – Great for neighborhood walks, though I quickly realized I needed a foldable one since this didn’t fit in my trunk.
- Simple Collapsible Wagon (link) – A must-have for the beach, sports games, or firework shows.
- Baby Trend Stroller Wagon (link) – Before getting the double BOB, I used this stroller wagon for younger kids. It’s great for walks, trips to Maine Wildlife Park, trick-or-treating, and beach outings. However, if your kids prefer having their own leg space, a stroller might be a better fit.
Bikes
- Baby Balance Bike (link) – Perfect for a beginner walker. A neighbor has one, and her little one loves keeping up with the big kids.
- Balance Bike (link) – One of my kids learned to ride using a pedal-less bike like this. The handlebar brake is a game-changer once they really start riding.
- Radio Flyer Bike/Trike (link) – A push tricycle is a great way for kids to feel like they’re riding while still having parental control.
- Bike with Removable Training Wheels (link) – We recently bought one of these after seeing multiple neighbors use them. They hold up well and grow with kids.
Scooters
- Three-Wheel Scooter (link) – The lean-to-turn design is perfect for beginners.
- Two-Wheel Scooter (link) – Great for advanced riders who want to try tricks and jumps.
- Plasma Scooter (link) – No pedaling needed! Most kids quickly figure out how to propel themselves on this.
Accessories & Gear
- Helmets – Infant/Toddler (link), Little Kids (link), Big Kids with light for night riding (link)
- Elbow & Knee Pads (link) – Essential for beginners.
- Bike Jumps (link) – Several neighbors have these, and they’re always a hit.
- Baby Bike Seat (link) – A great way to bring younger kids along on rides.
- Bike Trailer (link) – A friend has a similar one that doubles as a stroller and even works for cross-country skiing!
- Bike Rack for Car Hitch (link) – Essential for family bike trips.
- Rollerblades (link) – Another fun way to get kids moving.
- Cozy Coupe (link) – We never owned one, but my kids always gravitated toward them at friends’ houses.
- Skateboard (link) – Great for older kids wanting to try a new challenge.
- Wheelbarrow (link) – Perfect for little helpers who want to move dirt, leaves, or even their toys.
Final Thoughts
Having the right wheeled gear makes outdoor play and family adventures easier and more fun. Whether it’s a stroller for walks and runs, a wagon for carrying kids and gear, or a bike to help them learn to ride, there’s something here for every stage of childhood. Investing in quality items—whether new or secondhand—ensures they’ll last through multiple kids and adventures. What are your favorite wheeled devices for your little ones?
